The Orangutan Climb – Tim Laman

This is a colour photograph taken from a very high vantage point; a tree towering a forest. The camera is aiming down towards the trees below and we see an orangutan climbing towards us. The towering tree looks to be dying and is damaged in places. This is a direct contrast to the verdant floor it seems to be emerging from. The tree acts as a leading line, drawing our eyes through the centre of the image and down into the trees. The oranges of the orangutan almost blends in with the browns of the trees, making the tree itself the images main focus.

The orangutan is looking up towards us, and the tall, dying tree looks dangerous – like it could come crashing down at any moment. The camera angle emphasises the feelings of vulnerability.
